General Traffic Management Approach for the Southeast Stoney Trail Project
Chinook Roads Partnership implements a Traffic Management Plan (TMP) that governs the overall strategic approach to maintaining the flow of traffic throughout the construction period. The TMP is approved by Alberta Transportation and addresses traffic-related matters within the provincial construction project right-of-way, as well as with existing City of Calgary roadway tie-ins, and is designed to:
- provide safe passage for all traffic during all phases of the project;
- reduce impact on day-to-day peak hour traffic operations;
- ensure that public traffic on specified roadways operates unimpeded at existing standards and level of service throughout construction.
Guiding principles and/or requirements of the TMP include:
- work zones separated from travel lanes by implementing detours, lane shifts, and visual screening so as not to pose a distraction to passing motorists during peak hours
- clear and unambiguous construction signage posted to alert motorists of any traffic pattern changes throughout the Project
- at major intersections, existing standards and level of service maintained by providing the same number of through and turn lanes and same storage lengths
- construction within major intersection influence areas conducted outside peak hours so as not to interfere with the intersection capacity and functionality
- two-way traffic maintained all times on all detour roadways with any exceptions approved by regulatory authorities.
Please note construction and traffic management activities and dates are subject to change.
